Root Canal

Root canal therapy is needed when a tooth is infected; it is mostly related to the soft tissue nerves in the root of the tooth. It is the process of removing infected tissue in order to save the tooth’s natural structure. With root canal therapy procedure, patients can restore health to a tooth and avoid extraction.

Dr. Ahmadian offers precise, gentle root canal therapy at our state-of-the-art office in Arlington Advanced Dental Care.

When is Root Canal therapy needed:

Severe, deep decay

Broken teeth

Dental Trauma

The symptomatic tooth with a large filling

Inflammation or infection can occur for multiple reasons, such as:

Severe decay, cracked tooth, trauma. The infected nerves should be removed, and the canals should be shaped and cleaned.

If the tooth remains untreated, it becomes symptomatic with pain and infection. Infection can turn into an abscess, which is a more severe problem that causes bone loss in the jaw or spreads to other areas of the mouth or body further and harms your health. Some patients in need of root canal therapy do not experience any symptoms, but they need the treatment. It is essential to get your routine checkups semi-annually.

For treatment, Dr. Ahmadian removes the inflamed or infected pulp and clean the canal. Once we have eliminated the infection from the tooth, we will fill the tooth with a biocompatible rubber-like material to protects the root canals from reinfection in the future. After completion of root canal therapy, the tooth needs permanent restoration (filling or Crown) to seal the tooth and make it properly functional.

The number of appointments needed depends on the severity of the infection.

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your teeth, do not delay treatment. Contact our office online today or call 703-974-7501 to schedule an appointment for evaluation and possible treatment.
