Scaling and Root Planing

The process of removing and eliminating the dental plaque or calculus from the tooth, above and below the gum line is called scaling and root planing. The primary objective of doing the scaling and root planing is to restore gum health by completely removing the plaque and calculus. Plaque is the yellow-grayish soft substance that adheres to the tooth surfaces. When plaque gets mineralized, it forms to hard deposit, which is calculus.
